The Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed say that its members are more likely to vote to remain in the European Union in the forthcoming referendum.
The association asked its 1600 freelancer and contractor members whether ‘remain’ or ‘leave’ would be best for business.
49% of contractors said they plan to vote for the UK to remain, while 41% are in support of a Brexit.
This represents a significant shift in opinion since IPSE members were last surveyed. In October 2015, only a quarter of respondents said they planned to vote for a ‘Brexit’ with a clear majority in favour of remaining in the EU.
The IPSE’s Chris Bryce said:
‘Like the rest of the British public, contractors are giving the ‘remain’ vote a narrow lead, but ‘leave’ have made significant gains since we last surveyed.’
The EU referendum is due to be held on Thursday 23rd June 2016.
